Caribbean

Recommended readings welcome on Afro-Asian intimacies and tensions across the region. Texts will honor the coproduction and coexistence of peoples descended from West Africa, South China, East India, and Southeast Asia across the Caribbean archipelago and landmasses.

Bandung

Recommended readings welcome on conferences and the midcentury stakes of the era of formal decolonization for Third World Nations in Asia, Africa, the Pacific, and the Caribbean. Centering Indonesia and the gathering of 1955 in Bandung, this section will be comprised of literature that addresses the vibrant and messy history of Asian and African organizing and afterparties.

Black Pacific

Broadly conceived, we welcome readings that cohere an oceanic understanding of defining race and solidarity. Exploring centuries of itineraries of people of African and / or Asian descent who crossed the Pacific, we also look to archives of shared political movements of anti-colonial resistance and especially the currents of Black Power for Indigenous peoples living in island nations.
